What is The Pet pledge?

The Pet Pledge is PEIA’s programme to help improve access to veterinary care through a more sustainable, trusted and joined-up pet and equine insurance ecosystem. It brings together evidence, insight and practical action across insurance, veterinary care, animal welfare and the wider sector.

A key part of that work is PEIA’s Companion Animal Welfare Journey research. This looks at the whole experience of caring for a pet, from deciding whether to have one and choosing the right animal, through everyday care, veterinary treatment and insurance, illness and recovery, later life and end-of-life care. We want to understand what works well, where things become difficult or disconnected, and what could change to improve animal welfare, access to veterinary care and the role insurance can play in helping people afford the care their animals need.
